All-female Oceans Eight reboot leaves fans furious

Yet another modern classic movie is getting the all-female reboot treatment - and fans of the original aren’t happy.

Ocean’s Eight is the new, all-female version of Ocean’s Eleven/Twelve/Thirteen, a trilogy following a bunch of thieves starring George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.

The new film sees Sandra Bullock starring as George Clooney’s ex-con sister, with Cate Blanchett filling the Brad Pitt-esque role. Rounding out the cast are Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and rapper/comedienne Awkwafina, with the eighth ensemble player yet to be confirmed.

This all sounds exciting, especially considering that amazing cast (seriously?! Wow!). But fans have learnt to distrust the female reboot format after being let down by the recent, critically-panned Ghostbusters remake.

The next gender-swapped reboot in store for us will be Splash, the 1984 mermaid movie starring Daryl Hannah in her most iconic role. Stepping into her glorious tail will be Channing Tatum (we’re not seeing as many complaints there). Hmm…
