The cute kid from Free Willy has been sent to jail
He played the lead role of Jesse in the 1993 movie.
Jason James Richter, best known for playing the lead character Jesse in Free Willy, has reportedly reached a plea deal following his arrest in October.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the actor was arrested on October 15 in Van Nuys, California, and was booked for a misdemeanor. He reportedly spent two nights in jail and was released on USD$20,000 bail, and was later charged with two misdemeanors, one count of domestic battery, and one count of vandalism.
Richter plead no-contest to the vandalism charge on November 29 and was found guilty according to Entertainment Tonight. The domestic battery charge was dismissed as part of the actor's plea deal, which included changing his vandalism charge plea from not guilty to no-contest.
The Free Willy star was sentenced to four days in jail and will be on probabtion for 36 months. Richter will be credited the two days he spent in jail back in October to his sentence. Furthermore, the actor will have to pay fines and fees - including restitution to the victim - the amount of which will be determined later.
Richter will also have to enroll in a 52-week domestic violence treatment program within 30 days.
TMZ initially reported back in October that Richter was arrested after an alleged argument with his girlfriend at their home. It was reported that after the incident, Richter's girlfriend filed a domestic violence report with the police.
The actor shot to fame when he played Jesse in 1993's Free Willy and the movie's subsequent two sequels. He has since been involved with a number of TV projects, such as Bones, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Criminal Minds.
