So, where does Australia rank?

Sydney has now overtaken Brisbane to become the highest ranking Australian airport in Skytrax World’s Top 100 Airports list – one of the most prestigious aviation honours voted by 13.73 million travellers at over 550 airports around the world. They were asked about a number of factors including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration.

Sydney now sits at number 20, up three spots from last year, while Brisbane has dropped down to number 22, down from 16 last year.

Melbourne now sits at number 27, up three spots from last year, but their recently opened Terminal 4 was named third best low-cost terminal in the world.

The Gold Coast dropped down five spots to be number 55, while Perth jumped up 12 spots to number 59.

Adelaide dropped down five spots to number 78. Funnily enough, customer reviews on Skytrax show glowing responses to the airport. One user wrote:

“I had an unexpected emergency landing at Adelaide Airport in October, and I only have praise for the staff working here.

“Everyone was helpful, friendly and professional. All staff went above and beyond to assist where possible. Amazing staff.”

Meanwhile, reviews of Sydney airport were the opposite, one user called it “the worst airport on the planet”.

Internationally, Singapore’s Changi Airport kept its number one ranking for the sixth year in a row.

1. Singapore Changi

2. Incheon

3. Tokyo Haneda

4. Hong Kong

5. Doha Hamad

6. Munich

7. Centrair Nagoya

8. London Heathrow

9. Zurich

10. Frankfurt
