Woolies launch new vegan mince and tbh it looks pretty decent

Vegan and vegetarian faux-meat products typically fall into one of two camps, 1) good enough to ingest 2) look/taste like they've been ingested by someone else.

While we thought there wouldn't be too many new entries to this niche - the stakes (pun intended) are just so bloody high - it would appear we were wrong.

'Cause joining one of the riskier games in the biz and planting a new prod somewhere in the unrelenting categories above, is ol' dogs Woolies.

Created by Funky Fields, the plant-based mince introduced by the supermarket supposedly has the same structure, taste and cooking method of real meat.

Which is pretty nifty considering it's made from soya and wheat protein, beetroot, mushrooms, tomato and coconut oil.

Funky Fields have provided the below break down for the prod:

Energy 814 kJ / 202 kcal (per 100g)

Fat 10g (beef mince is around 30g)

– of which saturates 8,0 g

Carbohydrates 6,2 g

– of which sugars 1,5 g

Protein 18g

Salt 1,20 g

Which is pretty damn good compared to regular beef mince which contains three times (on average) the amount of fat, far less salt and similar levels of protein.

It's also muuuuch better for the environment btw.

The new prod will reportedly hit shelves this week so be sure to keep an eye out!
